Ingredients
Scale
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Red and blue gel food coloring
- ¾ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar together until smooth and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture to form a thick dough.
- Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour.
- Divide the chilled dough into three equal parts. Leave one plain, tint one red, and the other blue with gel food coloring.
- Scoop about ½ tablespoon from each colored dough, press together, and roll into 1-inch balls.
- Roll each ball in powdered sugar twice for maximum crinkle.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line baking sheets with parchment and bake cookies for 12–14 minutes.
- Cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Notes
Chill your dough for defined crinkles, use gel coloring for bold colors, and double-roll for extra sparkle. Slightly underbake to keep the centers soft.
