Description
This creamy beef and noodles recipe combines tender ground beef, egg noodles, and a rich, savory sauce for a hearty dinner ready in just 35 minutes.
Ingredients
2 ½ cups beef broth
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 teaspoon soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon mustard powder
½ teaspoon dried thyme
½ cup heavy cream (or half and half/milk)
1 lb. ground beef
Salt and pepper
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
½ lb. egg noodles (or up to ¾ lb. for less saucy results)
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded (preferably from a block)
Instructions
1. Mix all sauce ingredients in a measuring cup and set aside.
2. Season ground beef with salt and pepper, then cook it with diced onions in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned. Drain grease and set beef aside.
3. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil for the noodles.
4. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook briefly, then stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until lightly browned.
5. Slowly add the sauce mixture, stirring continuously. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Stir in cream of mushroom soup and let simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
6. Cook the noodles to al dente, then drain.
7. Reduce skillet heat to low. Stir in cheese until melted. Return the beef to the skillet.
8. Add cooked noodles and stir to combine. Let sit a few minutes to allow sauce to thicken before serving.
Notes
You can substitute cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom.
Use up to ¾ lb. of egg noodles for a less saucy dish.
Mushrooms or frozen vegetables can be added toward the end of cooking.
Shredding cheese from a block improves texture and melting.
Low-sodium broth and soy sauce can help reduce salt levels.
Tender beef cuts like sirloin, flank, ribeye, or tenderloin are good alternatives to ground beef.
