Description
Cinco De Mayo Sombrero Cookies are festive decorated sugar cookies made with buttercream icing, rainbow sprinkles, and gumdrops. These colorful cookies resemble tiny sombreros and make a fun dessert for Cinco de Mayo parties, school celebrations, and themed gatherings.
Ingredients
Round sugar cookies
Rainbow nonpareil sprinkles
Gumdrops candy
Buttercream icing
Disposable pastry bag
Instructions
1. Fill a disposable pastry bag with buttercream icing and snip a small opening at the tip.
2. Pipe a ring of icing around the outer edge of each round sugar cookie and add a small dot of icing in the center.
3. Turn the cookie upside down and gently press the iced edge into a bowl or plate of rainbow nonpareil sprinkles so the sprinkles stick to the icing.
4. Flip the cookie right side up.
5. Add a small amount of icing to the bottom of a gumdrop and place it in the center of the cookie to resemble the top of a sombrero.
6. Allow the icing to set before serving.
Notes
Any sugar cookie recipe can be used as the base for this design.
Buttercream icing works as both decoration and adhesive for the sprinkles and gumdrop.
Rainbow nonpareil sprinkles create the colorful sombrero brim effect.
Gumdrops represent the raised top of the sombrero.
This recipe focuses on decorating cookies rather than baking the cookie dough itself.
