Scale
- 1 lb flank steak slices or sirloin beef strips
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 2–3 red chillies, sliced
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Slice beef thinly against the grain.
- Toss with soy sauce, beaten egg, garlic, and ginger. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Drain excess marinade and coat each strip in cornstarch.
- Mix brown sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a bowl.
- Sauté garlic, ginger, and chillies in a bit of oil until fragrant. Add sauce mixture and simmer until thickened.
- Heat oil to 350°F (180°C) and fry beef in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Reheat sauce if needed, then toss beef in sauce until well coated and caramelized.
Notes
For a lighter option, air fry the beef and use lean cuts. Control heat by adjusting chilli quantity or removing seeds. Serve with rice, noodles, or fresh veggies.
