- 1 lb ground beef (85/15)
- ½ lb spicy Italian sausage
- ½ cup sliced pepperoni
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- 1 cup shredded provolone or cheddar
- ¼ cup grated parmesan
- 1 ½ cups pizza or marinara sauce
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 deep-dish pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup chopped bell peppers (optional)
- ½ cup mushrooms (optional)
- ¼ cup sliced black olives (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain the fat well.
- Add diced onions and minced garlic; cook until fragrant.
- Add pepperoni and optional veggies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the sauce and seasonings. Let simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Press the pie crust into a deep-dish pan or springform.
- Layer half the meat sauce, sprinkle half the cheeses. Repeat the layers and finish with parmesan.
- Cover loosely with foil, bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Drain the meat to avoid a soggy crust. Use a thick, buttery crust. Don’t overfill the pie. Rest before cutting for clean slices.
