  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15)
  • ½ lb spicy Italian sausage
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or cheddar
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan
  • 1 ½ cups pizza or marinara sauce
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 deep-dish pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup chopped bell peppers (optional)
  • ½ cup mushrooms (optional)
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain the fat well.
  2. Add diced onions and minced garlic; cook until fragrant.
  3. Add pepperoni and optional veggies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the sauce and seasonings. Let simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Press the pie crust into a deep-dish pan or springform.
  7. Layer half the meat sauce, sprinkle half the cheeses. Repeat the layers and finish with parmesan.
  8. Cover loosely with foil, bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Drain the meat to avoid a soggy crust. Use a thick, buttery crust. Don’t overfill the pie. Rest before cutting for clean slices.
