Description

These Anise Cookies are soft, cake-like treats with a subtle licorice flavor. Perfect for Christmas, they’re topped with sweet icing and colorful sprinkles.


Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1/2 cup granulated sugar

3 large eggs

2 tbsp milk (2%)

1 tsp anise extract

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

Sprinkles (optional)


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.

3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

4. Stir in milk, vanilla, and anise extract.

5. Add flour and baking powder, mixing until combined.

6. Shape dough into balls, place on baking sheets.

7. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until set.

8. Cool and frost with icing, add sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days.

You can freeze unbaked dough balls for up to 3 months.
