Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1 large egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
1 medium onion, sliced or chopped
8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 3/4 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic, breadcrumbs, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
2. Shape mixture into four oval patties of equal thickness.
3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 5–6 minutes on each side until browned. Transfer to a plate.
4. In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms. Cook 7–9 minutes until golden and tender.
5. Reduce heat to medium. Melt butter in skillet, stir in flour, and cook 1–2 minutes.
6. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder.
7. Return patties, mushrooms, and onions (with juices) to skillet. Simmer 5–7 minutes until patties are cooked through and gravy thickens.
8. Serve immediately with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
Notes
Do not overmix the beef to keep the patties tender.
Cook the onions and mushrooms until deeply browned for more flavor.
Add a splash of broth if the gravy becomes too thick while simmering.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
