Ingredients
16 ounces frozen strawberries
Juice of 4 limes, about 4 ounces
8 ounces tequila blanco
4 ounces Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or triple sec
2 ounces agave or simple syrup, optional
2 cups ice
Coarse salt for the rim
Lime wheels for garnish
Instructions
1. Add the frozen strawberries, lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, optional agave or simple syrup, and ice to a high speed blender.
2. Blend until smooth, creamy, and slushy, about 30 seconds.
3. Taste, then add agave or simple syrup only if needed and blend again briefly.
4. Rub the rim of each glass with a lime wedge.
5. Dip each glass into coarse salt to coat the rim.
6. Pour the frozen strawberry margarita into margarita glasses.
7. Garnish with lime wheels and serve immediately.
Notes
Sweetener is optional. Blend first, then taste and add agave or simple syrup only if needed.
To make simple syrup, heat equal parts sugar and water over low heat until clear and dissolved, then cool slightly.
For a salted rim, rub the glass edge with a lime wedge and dip it in coarse or kosher salt.
For a chili lime rim, mix 2 tablespoons salt with the zest of 1/2 lime and a pinch of chili powder.
The orange liqueur adds classic citrus flavor. Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or triple sec all work well.
Tequila blanco is a good choice for this blended drink.
For a bubbly variation, top each drink with about 1/4 cup sparkling fruit juice or club soda.
You can swap the strawberries for another frozen fruit such as raspberries.
You can make it 1 day ahead and store it in a freezer safe container. Re blend briefly before serving.
