Description

This Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes recipe combines the savory, cheesy flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak with the comfort and simplicity of sloppy joes. Perfectly seasoned ground beef, melty cheese, and sautéed onions and peppers come together on a toasted brioche bun for a meal that’s ready in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80% or 85% lean)
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 Small Onion (half diced, half minced)
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper (diced)
  • 1 Cup Beef Broth
  • 2 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 8 oz Cheddar Cheese (or mozzarella)
  • 6 Brioche Hamburger Buns

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ground Beef

    • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add the ground beef and cook until a deep brown crust forms before breaking it apart.
  • Sauté Vegetables

    • Remove the beef from the skillet, leaving the fat behind.
    • Add butter, diced onion, and bell pepper to the pan. Sauté for 1-2 minutes without stirring, allowing the vegetables to caramelize slightly. Stir and repeat for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Combine Ingredients

    • Remove excess grease from the pan.
    • Return the ground beef to the skillet.
  • Create the Sauce

    • In a small measuring cup, mix beef broth and cornstarch.
    • Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to the pan.
    • Pour in the beef broth mixture and stir well.
    • Cook for 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  • Melt the Cheese

    • Turn off the heat and fold in the cheese until melted and evenly distributed.
  • Toast the Buns

    • Heat a small amount of butter in a clean pan over medium-high heat.
    • Toast the brioche buns until golden brown.
  • Assemble and Serve

    • Scoop the beef mixture onto the toasted buns. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Freezing Tip: The cooked meat mixture can be frozen for up to 6 months. Thaw and reheat before serving.
  • Optional Add-Ins: For extra flavor, try adding mushrooms or swapping out cheddar for provolone or American cheese.
  • Serving Suggestion: Pair with fries, chips, or a side salad for a complete meal.
