Description
Crispy homemade Mexican churros with a soft inside, coated in warm cinnamon sugar and ready in under 35 minutes.
Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. Heat water, butter, sugar, and salt in a saucepan until boiling.
2. Remove from heat and stir in flour until a thick dough forms.
3. Let the dough cool slightly to prevent the egg from cooking.
4. Mix in egg and vanilla until smooth and fully combined.
5. Transfer dough to a piping bag with a star tip.
6. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
7. Pipe strips of dough into hot oil, cutting to desired length.
8. Fry until golden brown, turning for even cooking.
9. Remove and drain briefly on paper towels.
10. Roll warm churros in cinnamon sugar and serve immediately.
Notes
Let dough cool before adding the egg to avoid scrambling.
Keep oil temperature steady for even cooking.
Do not undercook to avoid raw centers.
Use a zip-top bag if you do not have a piping bag.
Serve warm for best texture and flavor.
