Description
Soft, glazed, and perfectly festive Italian Christmas Cookies made with almond extract and topped with colorful sprinkles. Perfect for gifting or serving at holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Cookies:
1/2 cup salted butter (melted and cooled)
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp almond extract
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs (room temperature)
Icing:
1 tsp almond extract
2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
2 to 3 tbsp milk
Nonpareil sprinkles (for decorating)
Instructions
1. Mix flour and baking powder in a small bowl and set aside.
2. Beat butter until fluffy, then add eggs, sugar, and almond extract. Mix well.
3. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture. Mix gently until combined. Chill dough for 1 hour.
4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll dough into tablespoon-sized balls. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
5. Bake for 8–10 minutes until set. Cool completely before icing.
6. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until thick glaze forms.
7. Dip cookies into glaze and top with sprinkles before icing sets.
Notes
Do not overmix the dough.
Chill dough for at least 1 hour for best results.
Let cookies cool fully before glazing.
Store in airtight containers with wax paper layers.
Freeze for up to 3 months.
