Description

Apple Cobbler made with cinnamon-spiced apples and a golden, cake-like topping. A comforting fall dessert for Thanksgiving or any cozy night.

Ingredients

Scale

6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, or similar), peeled and sliced ¼ inch thick

1 cup water or apple juice

⅓ cup brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon lemon juice

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

⅛ teaspoon salt

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

¾ cup milk

5 tablespoons butter, melted

Ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.

2. In a saucepan, stir together water, brown sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add apples and cook over medium heat for 3–5 minutes.

3. Pour apple mixture into the prepared pan.

4. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.

5. Pour batter evenly over apples and sprinkle with cinnamon.

6. Bake for 38–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the topping comes out clean.

7. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

8. Optional: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

The apple filling can be made up to 3 days ahead and refrigerated.

Baked cobbler freezes well for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in the oven.

Use tart apples like Granny Smith or a mix for best flavor.

Peeling apples helps create a smoother filling texture.
