Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp red gel food coloring
1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and food coloring until evenly combined.
5. Gradually stir dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
6. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into 1-inch balls.
8. Coat each ball generously in powdered sugar and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
9. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set but centers are soft.
10. Cool cookies on the sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Notes
Use gel food coloring for a deep red hue without thinning the dough.
Chill the dough to keep the cookies round and create distinct crinkles.
Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
