Description
This strawberry danish is a flaky, buttery pastry filled with sweet cream cheese and topped with fresh strawberries. It uses store-bought puff pastry, so it comes together quickly and works perfectly for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.
Ingredients
4 cups sliced strawberries
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon sugar
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
1 large egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water
2 to 3 tablespoons sugar for topping optional
Optional toppings: strawberry jam or vanilla glaze
Instructions
1. Mix sliced strawberries with sugar and cornstarch until coated, then let sit briefly to release juices
2. Beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy
3. Roll out thawed puff pastry and cut into portions, shaping slightly with raised edges
4. Place pastries on a lined baking sheet before filling to maintain structure
5. Add a small amount of cream cheese filling to the center of each pastry, then top with a few strawberry slices
6. Brush edges with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar if desired
7. Bake at 375°F for about 20 minutes until puffed and golden brown
8. Cool slightly before adding optional jam or glaze and serving
Notes
Do not overfill pastries or they will not puff properly
Use fresh strawberries because frozen ones release too much liquid
Keep puff pastry cool while working to maintain flaky layers
Reheat baked pastries in the oven at 300°F for about 5 minutes to restore crispness
