Description
These buttery Valentine Cookies are crisp, chocolate-dipped, and sprinkled with festive color. Perfect for sharing, gifting, or enjoying with a warm drink on Valentine’s Day.
Ingredients
1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (150 g) sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
1 large egg yolk
2 ¼ cups (295 g) all-purpose flour
1 cup (170 g) dark chocolate melting wafers
1 cup (170 g) white chocolate melting wafers
Nonpareils or sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
1. Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
2. Mix in vanilla and salt.
3. Add the egg yolk and combine well.
4. Gradually add flour, scraping the bowl as needed, until a soft dough forms.
5. Shape dough into a disk, wrap, and chill for 15 minutes.
6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment.
7. Roll dough to ¼ inch thick on a floured surface.
8. Cut with cookie cutters and place on the baking sheet.
9. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
10. Cool completely before dipping.
11. Melt chocolate wafers in separate bowls following package directions.
12. Dip cooled cookies halfway into either white or dark chocolate.
13. Add sprinkles immediately and allow to set before serving.
Notes
Dough can be chilled up to 48 hours; let sit at room temperature 15–30 minutes before rolling.
Roll dough at least ¼ inch thick for sturdier cookies.
Ensure cookies are fully cooled before dipping to prevent breakage.
If using chocolate chips, add 1 teaspoon shortening per cup and melt in intervals.
Smaller cookie cutters bake faster; adjust timing as needed.
