Description

Sweet, salty, crunchy, and chewy 4th Of July Chocolate Covered Pretzels With Caramel made with square pretzels, soft caramel, red, white, and blue candy melts, plus festive sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale

20 soft caramels

80 square pretzels

1 cup red candy melts

1 cup white candy melts

1 cup blue candy melts

Gold star sprinkles

Small white sprinkles

Vegetable oil or shortening as needed

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 250°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cut each caramel in half.

3. Arrange half of the pretzels on the baking sheet and place a caramel half on each one.

4. Bake about 8 minutes until the caramel softens.

5. Top with remaining pretzels and let cool completely.

6. Melt blue candy melts using a double boiler or heatproof bowl over simmering water, adding small amounts of vegetable oil or shortening if too thick.

7. Dip about one-third of each pretzel into the melted blue coating.

8. Place dipped pretzels on parchment or wax paper and immediately add sprinkles.

9. Melt red and white candy melts separately, thinning if necessary.

10. Transfer melted coatings into piping bags and drizzle over the pretzels in layers.

11. Let the pretzels cool fully before serving.

Notes

Candy melts can be replaced with compound chocolate tinted with food coloring.

White chocolate chips are harder to melt smoothly and are not recommended.

If melted chocolate becomes thick or lumpy, slowly mix in small amounts of vegetable oil while heating gently.

Sprinkles should be added immediately before the coating hardens.

Candy melts can also be melted in the microwave in short intervals at 50% power, stirring frequently.

Best stored in an airtight container.

Keeps up to 2 weeks at room temperature in a cool dry place or several weeks refrigerated.

Moisture can soften the pretzels and reduce crunch.
