Description

Festive 4th of July Cookies made with brownie mix, chocolate chips, and colorful M&M’s. Soft, chewy, quick to make, and perfect for summer parties.

Ingredients

Scale

1 box (18.9 ounce) brownie mix

2 eggs

1/4 cup melted butter

1/4 cup flour

1 tablespoon water

1 cup M&M’s, divided

1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Combine the brownie mix and flour in a large bowl.

3. Add the eggs, water, and melted butter, then mix until a thick dough forms.

4. Stir in the chocolate chips and about three quarters of the M&M’s.

5. Scoop tablespoon sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place them spaced apart on the baking sheet.

6. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes, until the tops look set and slightly cracked.

7. Remove from the oven and immediately press the remaining M&M’s onto the tops.

8. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet briefly, then transfer them to a rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dry place.

Add a slice of bread to the container to help keep the cookies soft.

Change the candy colors for other holidays.

Double the recipe for larger batches.

Use white chocolate, peanut butter, or butterscotch chips for variation.

Sprinkles can replace candy.

You can also use sugar, shortbread, or peanut butter cookie bases with similar toppings.

These cookies can be made up to 5 days in advance, though they taste best fresh.

For easier serving, bake the dough in a pan and cut into bars.
