Description
Soft, chewy, buttery 4th of July Sprinkle Cookies filled with patriotic jimmies sprinkles. No dough chilling required.
Ingredients
¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cream of tartar
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups (248 g) all-purpose flour
1½ cups patriotic or rainbow jimmies sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
2. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla.
3. Add baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and flour, mixing just until combined. Fold in the sprinkles.
4. Scoop 2-tablespoon portions of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
5. Bake for 9–11 minutes until the bottoms are lightly golden and the tops are no longer glossy. Avoid overbaking for a softer texture.
6. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for at least 5 minutes before transferring.
Notes
Slightly underbaking the cookies gives the best chewy texture.
The cookies are ready when the shiny surface disappears.
Jimmies-style sprinkles work better than nonpareils because they hold their shape during baking.
Any sprinkle color can be used for different holidays or occasions.
Salted butter may be used by reducing the added salt to ¼ teaspoon.
Vegan butter sticks can replace regular butter for a dairy-free version.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freeze baked cookies for up to 1 month with paper towels between layers to reduce moisture.
