Ingredients
For the apple filling:
8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/3 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons arrowroot flour or cornstarch
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the crisp topping:
1 cup almond flour
1/2 cup coconut sugar or another granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into even pieces.
3. Add the apples, maple syrup, arrowroot flour, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to a large bowl.
4. Mix until the apple slices have an even coating.
5. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
6. In another bowl, mix the almond flour, coconut sugar, cinnamon, and kosher salt.
7. Add the cold cubed butter and cut it into the dry ingredients until the mixture looks crumbly.
8. Stir in the rolled oats.
9. Scatter the topping evenly over the apples without pressing it down.
10. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the topping turns golden and the apples feel tender.
11. Remove the Apple Crisp from the oven and let it cool slightly.
12. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or warm custard.
