Description

This Best Healthy Burger Bowl brings classic cheeseburger flavor into a fresh, gluten free, low carb dinner. Juicy turkey patties, crisp romaine, colorful toppings, cheddar cheese, and creamy burger sauce come together in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the turkey burgers:

1 pound ground turkey

2 teaspoons olive oil, plus extra for cooking

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon paprika

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

For the special sauce:

½ cup avocado mayonnaise

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon pickle juice or apple cider vinegar

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon paprika or chili powder

Pinch of salt

Pinch of black pepper

For the bowls:

4 cups chopped romaine lettuce

½ cup sliced cherry tomatoes

⅓ cup sliced red onion

⅓ cup sliced pickles

⅓ cup cooked chopped bacon, optional

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. Add the ground turkey, 2 teaspoons olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper to a mixing bowl. Mix gently until evenly combined.

2. Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick, then press a small indentation into the center.

3. Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4 minutes per side, or until the centers reach 165°F. Cook in batches when needed.

4. Add the avocado mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle juice or apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika or chili powder, salt, and pepper to a small bowl.

5. Whisk the sauce until smooth and creamy.

6. Divide the chopped romaine lettuce between serving bowls.

7. Top each bowl with 1 or 2 turkey patties, cherry tomatoes, red onion, pickles, bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese.

8. Spoon or drizzle the special sauce over each bowl, then serve right away.

Notes

Shape every patty to the same thickness so they cook evenly.

Mix the turkey gently. Too much mixing can make the patties firm.

Cook the burgers in batches when needed so the skillet does not become crowded.

Ground beef or ground chicken can replace the ground turkey.

Any lettuce or tomato variety will work.

For a vegetarian version, use black bean burgers and leave out the bacon.

Prepare the burgers and sauce ahead, then assemble the bowls when ready to serve.

Store leftover ingredients separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheat the turkey patties in a skillet over medium heat or microwave them in short intervals.

Serve with regular fries, sweet potato fries, roasted vegetables, or a fresh side salad.
