Description
A sweet, tart, fruity, and refreshing Blackberry Lemonade Recipe made with fresh blackberries, lemon juice, sugar, and water.
Ingredients
4 cups water, divided
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups fresh blackberries
1 cup fresh lemon juice
Instructions
1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water, sugar, and blackberries.
2. Bring to a gentle boil, crushing the berries as they soften to release their juice.
3. Cook until the sugar fully dissolves, about 2 to 3 minutes.
4. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
5. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher, discarding the seeds and solids.
6. Add the lemon juice and remaining 3 cups water, then stir well.
7. Refrigerate until cold and serve over ice.
Notes
The drink may naturally separate during storage, so stir before serving.
For a sweeter lemonade, mix in up to 1/4 cup additional sugar.
Garnish with fresh lemon slices, blackberries, or ice cubes frozen with berries or mint.
Fresh lemon juice gives the best flavor.
The blackberry syrup can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for several weeks.
Prepared lemonade can keep refrigerated for up to 8 days depending on berry freshness.
For a sparkling version, replace still water with carbonated water.
Freeze and blend later for a slushy-style drink.
