Description

This Brownie Trifle layers rich fudgy brownies, creamy chocolate pudding, and fluffy homemade whipped cream. It serves 10 and makes an easy crowd-sized dessert for Thanksgiving, holiday dinners, parties, and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

2 packages NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Brownies & More Chocolate Baking Mix with Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

2 large eggs

1 cup vegetable oil

6 tablespoons water

2 packages (3.9 oz each) instant chocolate fudge pudding mix

4 cups cold milk

4 cups very cold heavy cream

1/3 cup sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and coat two 8-inch square baking pans with cooking spray.

2. Combine the brownie mix with the eggs, vegetable oil, and water until blended. Mix in 2/3 cup of the included chocolate morsels.

3. Divide the brownie batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 10 minutes.

4. Sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup chocolate morsels over the brownies. Continue baking for 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

5. Cool the brownies completely on a wire rack. Then cut them into small, bite-sized squares.

6. Whisk the instant chocolate fudge pudding mix with 4 cups cold milk for 2 to 5 minutes, until thickened. Refrigerate until assembly.

7. Beat the very cold heavy cream with the sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

8. Add a layer of brownie pieces to a large dessert bowl. Top with a layer of whipped cream, followed by a layer of chocolate pudding.

9. Repeat the brownie, whipped cream, and chocolate pudding layers once more.

10. Finish with a final layer of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Serve right away or refrigerate until serving.

Notes

Keep the brownie, whipped cream, and chocolate pudding layers roughly even.

You can adapt the recipe to different bowl sizes or assemble it in individual dessert cups.

You can prepare the trifle up to 1 day ahead and refrigerate it until serving.

For variations, add peanut butter cups or toffee between the layers.

For an adults-only variation, add Baileys to the pudding, whipped cream, or both.

You can also add chocolate fudge sauce as a topping.

The source recipe lists 35 minutes as the total time, although brownie baking and cooling require additional elapsed time.
