Description
Christmas Deviled Eggs are a creamy, tangy, and festive holiday appetizer featuring tender egg whites filled with a rich Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, dill pickle, and red onion mixture. Fresh parsley and ruby red pomegranate seeds create beautiful Christmas holly decorations. Perfect for Christmas dinner, holiday parties, and make-ahead appetizer platters.
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon dill pickle, finely minced
- 1 tablespoon red onion, finely diced
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Fresh parsley, 1 small stem per egg half
- Pomegranate seeds, 2 to 3 seeds per egg half
Instructions
- Place a steamer basket inside the Instant Pot. Arrange the 6 large eggs in the basket and pour in 1 cup of water.
- Secure the Instant Pot lid and cook on high pressure for 5 minutes. Allow the pressure to release naturally. Carefully transfer the eggs to an ice bath using tongs.
- Once the eggs cool completely, gently peel them and slice each egg lengthwise into two halves. Remove the yolks and place them in a mixing bowl. Arrange the egg whites on a serving platter.
- Mash the egg yolks with a fork until they become fine crumbs. Gradually add the mayonnaise, mixing until the filling turns smooth and creamy.
- Add Dijon mustard, finely minced dill pickle, diced red onion, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients combine evenly.
- Transfer the creamy yolk filling into a piping bag fitted with a decorative tip, or use a small spoon. Fill each egg white half generously with the prepared mixture.
- Decorate each filled egg half with one small fresh parsley stem and 2 to 3 ruby red pomegranate seeds to create a festive Christmas holly appearance.
- Serve the Christmas Deviled Eggs immediately or refrigerate them in a covered container until ready to serve.
Notes
Stovetop cooking method: Carefully lower the eggs into boiling water and cook for 10 minutes. Immediately transfer them to an ice bath before peeling.
For a smooth and creamy filling, thoroughly mash the egg yolks before gradually mixing in the mayonnaise.
For a decorative presentation, use a piping bag with a star tip. A regular spoon also works well.
For a lighter filling, substitute regular mayonnaise with reduced-fat mayonnaise or plain Greek yogurt.
Replace Dijon mustard with yellow mustard, whole-grain mustard, or spicy brown mustard for a different flavor.
Dill pickle relish makes a convenient substitute for finely minced dill pickles.
For an alternative festive garnish, replace pomegranate seeds with finely diced red bell pepper. Use a drinking straw to cut small circles that resemble Christmas berries.
Prepare the yolk filling up to 24 hours ahead and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
For the freshest appearance, assemble the deviled eggs no more than 1 hour before serving.
Keep prepared deviled eggs refrigerated at 40°F or below. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and enjoy within 2 days.
Do not leave deviled eggs at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or more than 1 hour when temperatures exceed 90°F.
The listed 30-minute total time does not include any additional time needed for natural pressure release.
