Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 egg, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cake batter extract
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
4 tbsp butter, softened
5 oz cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and cake batter extract, then blend well and scrape the bowl as needed.
4. Add flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt, then mix just until a soft dough forms.
5. Portion evenly sized dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
6. Bake for about 8 minutes, or until the cookies look set.
7. Let the cookies cool completely before frosting.
8. Beat butter and cream cheese until smooth.
9. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then whip until light and fluffy.
10. Spread or pipe frosting over cooled cookies, then top with patriotic sprinkles.
Notes
Do not overmix the dough so the cookies stay soft.
Let cookies cool fully before frosting to prevent melting.
