Description

Soft, warm, and lightly caramelized Easy Cinnamon Apples with cozy apple pie flavor. This quick skillet recipe works as a side dish, snack, dessert, or topping for pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt, French toast, or ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale

3 apples, chopped into 1/2 to 1-inch cubes, about 3 cups

2 tablespoons water

1 tablespoon salted butter or coconut oil

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt

1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Place chopped apples and water in a skillet over medium heat.

2. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly softened and most of the water is absorbed.

3. Add butter or coconut oil and stir to coat the apples evenly.

4. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes, stirring often, until tender.

5. Mix in maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract.

6. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring regularly, until the apples are soft and lightly caramelized.

7. Serve warm.

Notes

Peeling the apples is optional, but recommended for babies or anyone preferring a softer texture.

Honey, brown sugar, or granulated sugar can replace maple syrup.

Butter may be swapped with coconut oil or ghee.

Water can be replaced with apple juice or apple cider for more flavor.

Any apple variety works, including Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Gala, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Jazz, or Jonagold.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Freezing is not recommended because cooked apples become mushy after thawing.

Recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
