Ingredients

Scale

½ tablespoon chili powder

½ tablespoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

1. Add the chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, dried oregano, kosher salt, and black pepper to a small bowl.

2. Stir until all the spices are evenly blended and no clumps remain.

3. Use the seasoning immediately, or transfer it to a sealed airtight container for later use.

Notes

Store the seasoning in an airtight container for up to 1 year when made with fresh spices.

This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled, or quadrupled for larger batches.

If your garlic powder already contains salt, reduce the added kosher salt accordingly.

Sweet paprika and smoked paprika both work well.

Mexican oregano gives a traditional flavor, although Italian oregano also works.

American chili powder creates a balanced flavor, while pure ground chili adds stronger heat.

One batch seasons about 1 pound of chicken, beef, shrimp, or vegetables.
