Description

Create a festive and easy Fourth of July Cake in a Jar with vibrant red and blue cake layers, fluffy whipped topping, and patriotic sprinkles. This portable dessert is perfect for summer BBQs, picnics, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Fourth of July celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale

15.25-ounce box white cake mix, prepared according to package directions

1½ ounces strawberry gelatin powder, about 3 tablespoons

1½ ounces blue raspberry gelatin powder, about 3 tablespoons

16-ounce tub whipped topping

Patriotic sprinkles, optional

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch cake pans.

2. Prepare the white cake mix following the package instructions.

3. Divide the batter evenly into two bowls.

4. Stir strawberry gelatin into one bowl and blue raspberry gelatin into the other until fully blended.

5. Pour each colored batter into its own cake pan.

6. Bake according to the cake mix directions until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

7. Let the cakes cool completely.

8. Crumble each color into separate bowls.

9. Transfer whipped topping into a piping bag.

10. Layer blue cake crumbs into the bottom of each mason jar.

11. Pipe whipped topping over the blue cake layer.

12. Add red cake crumbs over the whipped topping.

13. Continue layering cake crumbs and whipped topping until the jars are filled.

14. End with whipped topping on top.

15. Finish with patriotic sprinkles and serve.

Notes

For a deeper red shade, add an extra tablespoon of strawberry gelatin powder.

Avoid adding more than half a package of blue gelatin or the cake texture may become dense.

Store covered jars in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freeze for up to 6 months and thaw before serving.

Premade cake and frosting can be used for a quicker version.

Homemade cake or frosting recipes also work well.

Whipped topping may soften slightly after storage or thawing.

Yellow cake mix can be substituted, though colors may appear less vibrant.

Cupcake tins can be used instead of cake pans if needed.
