Description

Creamy chocolate pudding, fluffy Cool Whip, and crushed Oreos create these easy Pumpkin Dirt Cups. Green coconut grass and candy pumpkins give each cup a festive pumpkin patch look for Thanksgiving, Halloween, and fall parties.

Ingredients

Scale

1 package (3.9 oz) chocolate instant pudding

2 cups milk

8 oz Cool Whip

1 regular-size package Oreo cookies

Candy pumpkins, as needed

Shredded coconut, as needed

Green food coloring, a few drops

Water, a small amount

Instructions

1. Crush the Oreo cookies finely using a food processor or place them in a sealed bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

2. Whisk the chocolate instant pudding mix with the milk for about 2 minutes. Then let it stand for 5 minutes to thicken.

3. Gently fold the Cool Whip into the thickened pudding until combined.

4. Add about 1 tablespoon of Oreo crumbs to the bottom of each serving cup. Add a layer of the pudding mixture.

5. Continue alternating Oreo crumbs and pudding mixture. Finish each cup with Oreo crumbs on top.

6. Chill the assembled dirt cups for at least 1 hour.

7. Place the shredded coconut in a container with a lid. Add a few drops of green food coloring and a small splash of water. Close the container and shake until the coconut turns evenly green.

8. Just before serving, garnish each cup with green coconut and candy pumpkins.

Notes

Vanilla instant pudding can replace chocolate pudding. Add brown food coloring if desired to create a dirt-like color.

Golden Oreos can replace regular Oreos, although they will not create the same dark dirt appearance.

Candy corn or gummy worms can also be added for variation.

Add the green coconut and candy decorations immediately before serving.

The listed yield is 18 servings. However, using 9 oz plastic cups produces approximately 12 to 14 cups.

You can assemble the dessert in a 9 x 13-inch pan instead of individual cups.
